About
Net cultivated area of Erode District is 1,56,641 hectares. Around 25100 ha of Paddy, 20100 ha of Millet, 5500 ha of Pulses, 22900 ha of Oilseeds, 900 ha of Cotton and 16000 ha Sugarcane is being cultivated. 70% of Agriculture crops are cultivated under irrigated condition. Canal water source for irrigation is supplied by Lower Bhavani Project, Thadapalli & Arakkankottai Canal, Kalingarayan Canal and Mettur West Bank Canal.
Vision and Mission
- Bringing fallow lands into cultivation: The aim is to increase the present cropped area from 60% to 75% by bringing an additional 11.75 lakh hectares under cultivation. This involves augmenting water resources, such as ponds and check dams, and installing solar-powered pumpsets.
- The area under double cropping should be increased from 10 lakh hectares to 20 lakh hectares.
Placing Tamil Nadu in the top three nationally for productivity: The vision includes concerted efforts to position the state among the top three at the national level in the productivity of foodgrains, coconut, sunflower, and commercial crops like sugarcane and cotton.

State Government Schemes
State Agriculture Development Scheme:
- Summer Ploughing in rainfed areas – Rs.800/acre Back ended subsidy.

- Agro ecosystem analysis based pest management Rs.4900/hectare subsidy.

Chief Minister Mannuyir Kathu Mannuyir Kappom Thittam:
- Distribution of Green Manure seeds at 20Kg/acre – 50% subsidy Rs.1250/-
- Encouraging Vermicompost production – Rs.3000/- or 50% subsidy.
- Establishment of Organic Input Production Centre at Rs.1,00,000/- subsidy per group.
- Financial assistance of Rs.10,000/- for Organic farming model plot.

Nutrition Farming Mission:
- Subsidy for Redgram Area Expansion at Rs.2500/acre.
Kalaignarin All Village Integrated Agricultural Development Programme:
- Formation of fallow land clusters.
- Bush clearance in individual farmer land at Rs.9600/hectare.
- Promotion of Bund crop with pulses at 50% subsidy per hectare up to Rs.300/hectare.
- Establishment of ICM Demo at 50% subsidy per hectare up to Rs.450/hectare.
- Distribution of Battery Sprayer at 50% subsidy.
Tamil Nadu Millet Mission:
- Increasing in millet area under cultivation through alternate cropping at 50% subsidy or Rs.1250/acre.
Chief Minister’s Uzhavar Nala Sevai Maiyam:
- 30% subsidy for establishment of Chief Minister’s Uzhavar Nala Sevai Maiyam with 10 Lakh to 20 Lakh project cost with bank loan assistance.
Malaivazh Uzhavar Munnetra Thittam:
- Backended subsidy for Minor Millet cultivating farmer at Rs.4000/hectare and distribution of Minor Millet Minikit at 100% subsidy.
Central Government Schemes
- National Food Security and Nutrition Mission (NFSNM) –Assistance for Fostering Seeds of New Varieties
Objective :
To enhance crop productivity by encouraging farmers to cultivate high-yielding, certified, and hybrid seed varieties of paddy, millets and pulses. Quality seeds are distributed under this scheme.
- Maximum subsidy eligibility: up to 1 hectare per farmer.
- Paddy: 50% subsidy, up to Rs.20/kg.
- Millets: 50% subsidy, up to Rs.30/kg.
- Pulses: 50% subsidy, up to Rs.50/kg.
- National Food Security and Nutrition Mission (NFSNM) – Pulses
Objective:
Increase the Area, Productivity, and Profitability of Pulses cultivation.
Key components include:
- Laying out demonstration plots to showcase best practices.
- Production subsidy for high-yielding varieties (less than 8 years old).
- Distribution subsidy for certified seeds (less than 10 years old).
- Supply of Pulses Micronutrients, Liquid Bio-fertilizers, and Biological control Agents.
- National Food Security and Nutrition Mission (NFSNM) –Coarse Cereals (Maize)
Objective:
Expansion of maize cultivation and improve Productivity and Production.
The scheme envisages :
- Laying out demonstration plots to showcase best practices.
- Subsidized distribution of high-yielding hybrid maize seeds.
- Supply of Millet Micronutrients, Liquid Bio-fertilizers, and Plant Protection Chemicals.
This ensures improved soil health, increased productivity and Production.
- National Food Security and Nutrition Mission (NFSNM) – Nutri Cereals
Objective:
To promote the cultivation of Nutri rich millets like Sorghum, Pearl millet and Finger millet.
The scheme includes:
- Demonstration plots to showcase improved cultivation methods.
- Subsidies for producing (less than 8 years old) and distributing (less than 10 years old) high-yielding millet varieties.
- Assistance for Millet Micronutrients, Liquid Bio-fertilizers, Nano-Urea foliar application, Plant Protection Chemicals and Tarpaulin sheets for post-harvest handling.
- Promotion of campaigns, including food festivals, roadshows and awareness campaigns
This mission aims to mainstream millets due to their high nutrition value, climate resilience, and increased market demand.
- National Food Security and Nutrition Mission (NFSNM) – Cotton
Objective:
Encourage cotton cultivation to attain sustainable cotton production.
The key points include:
- Demonstration plots for Integrated crop management (ICM) practices.
- Promotion of intercropping in Cotton.
- National Food Security and Nutrition Mission (NFSNM) – Sugarcane
Objective:
To Improve sugarcane Production and productivity and to encourage intercropping.
- Laying out intercrop Demonstration.
- Subsidized distribution of Biocontrol Agents.
- National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds
Objective:
To increase Groundnut and Sesame production and boost farmer income through value addition.
The scheme focuses on:
- Creation of value-chain partnerships for procurement directly from farmers.
- Improved price realization through aggregation and value addition.
- Laying out Demonstrations with improved cultivation methods to promote crop yield.
Supports both production growth and market linkages.
- National Agricultural Development Programme (NADP)– Paddy
Objective:
Adopt innovative latest technologies to increase paddy production.
The scheme aim at:
- Production subsidy for new high-yielding varieties (<10 years old).
- Distribution subsidy for certified seeds (<10 years old).
- Subsidy for Machine planting of Paddy to reduce labour costs and also increase efficiency of planting.
- Subsidy for Copper sulphate application to control fungal disease and to correct copper deficiency.
- National Agricultural Development Programme (NADP) – Redgram
Objective:
To enhance Red gram yield, Profitability and Resilience to Climate variability.
Support provided:
- Demonstrations are laid out by providing subsidy for planting of high-yielding variety seeds, protrays, coir pith, Liquid Biofertilizers, Pulses Micronutrients, and biological control Agents.
- Subsidy is also provided for Ploughing and foliar DAP spray.
The scheme aims to boost red gram yield, especially in drought-prone regions.
- National Agricultural Development Programme (NADP) – Maize
Objective:
Increase maize cultivation and production.
The Key factors include:
- Laying out of Demonstration plots which include distribution of less than 10 year old hybrid maize seeds, Liquid bio-fertilizers, Application of Organic inputs and Nano-urea foliar spray.
- National Agricultural Development Programme (NADP) – Cotton
Objective:
Supports long-staple cotton seed production and distribution.
The components are :
- Distribution of seeds of long-staple cotton variety.
- Promotion of “Nipping” to increase crop yield.
- Rainfed Area Development – Integrated Farming System (IFS)
Objective:
To Improve the income of farmers in rainfed regions through diversified farming.
The Support given is 50% subsidy for :
- Dairy cattle / goat rearing.
- Establishment of Beehives.
- Distribution of fruit seedlings.
- Establishment of vermicompost units.
Integrated Farming System (IFS) envisages income stability by integrating livestock, Apiary, Vermicomposting and horticulture with crop cultivation.
- Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY)
Objective:
Promote organic farming practices over a 3‑year implementation cycle. Helps to build sustainable organic farming communities.
Assistance is given for :
- Formation of 20 Nos. farmers clusters with 20 farmers each.
- Imparting training on preparation and usage of organic inputs.
- Input subsidy for producing organic manures and bio-inputs.
- Assistance for branding, packaging, and marketing of organic produce.
- National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF)
Objective:
Promoting chemical-free farming, conservation of local cattle breeds, Adoption of multi-cropping systems, soil restoration, and climate resilience.
Implemented on a cluster basis (125 acres per cluster). The following activities are carried out to promote Natural Farming,
- Awareness campaign.
- Training by certified natural farming women facilitators (Krishi Sakis).
- Incentives and certification fee support.
- Subsidy for fermentation drums, grinders, storage units, cold storage boxes, and automated bio-input processing machines to establish Bio Input production Centers (BRC). The inputs produced from BRC’s helps to improve soil health, reduces dependence on external inputs, and enhances farm profitability.
- Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM)
Objective:
Promoting farm mechanization to reduce labour cost and ensure timeliness of agricultural operations. Mechanization helps improve efficiency, reduce drudgery, and enhance overall farm productivity.
Subsidy is allowed for distribution of
- Power tillers, Rotavators, Power weeders, Battery sprayers.
- Seed drill for paddy, maize, and groundnut.
Rate of Subsidy:
- 50% subsidy for small/marginal farmers, SC/ST, and women farmers.
- 40% subsidy for all other farmers.
Joint Ventures (Central and State)
1. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
- In Erode District, Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) Scheme Maize, Groundnut, Redgram, Ragi And Sessame crops are notified in Kharif season, Samba Paddy and Sugarcane crops are notified in Rabi season in firka level.
Scheme Objectives
PMFBY aims at supporting sustainable production in agriculture sector by way of:
- Providing financial support to farmers suffering crop loss/damage arising out of unforeseen events.
- Stabilizing the income of farmers to ensure their continuance in farming.
- Encouraging farmers to adopt innovative and modern agricultural practices.
- Ensuring credit worthiness of the farmers, crop diversification and enhancing growth and competitiveness of agriculture sector besides protecting the farmers from production risks.
Farmers can Register for insurance in District Central Cooperative Bank, Primary Bank Agricultural Cooperative Society, Nationalised Banks, Commercial Banks, Common Service Center (CSC). Documents required for Crop Insurance registration is Aadhar Card, Adangal / Chitta, Bank Passbook, Registration Form, Proposal Form.
2. Krishonnati Yojana – Implementation of Support to State Extension Programmes for Extension Reforms Scheme (SSEPERS) –
Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA)
Objective:
The Agricultural Technology Management Agency, also referred as ATMA has been Operating since 2005-06 in Erode District with 60% share from the Central and 40% form State Governments respectively for the benefit of the Farmers.
Several activities in Agriculture & Allied Sector like Inter State, Within State and District Level Trainings and Exposure Visit to the Farmers, Demonstrations, Field Days, District Level Exhibition, Printing Leaflets, Farmer scientist Interaction, Joint Visit Support to ATMA like Institutions, Farm Schools etc., are being carrying out in ATMA Scheme every year.
3.Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana-Per Drop More Crop (RKVY-PDMC): Micro Irrigation
- Under Micro Irrigation scheme, Drip Irrigation, Sprinkler Irrigation, Raingun etc. are provided at a 100% subsidy to Small/Marginal farmers and 75% subsidy to Other farmers
