Multipurpose Farm Pond GIFT (Genetically Improved Farm Tilapia) seed stocking
The inland fish production in Tamil Nadu is mainly contributed by culture of Indian Major carps and Chinese carps. These species take a longer time to grow. In case of Krishnagiri district majority of the water bodies are short seasonal tanks and can hold water for period of mere 4 months. To overcome the constrain and increase fish production in the district, Department of Fisheries, Government of Tamil Nadu has taken an initiative to produce quality GIFT seeds at Government fish seed farm, Krishnagiri with the approval of Government of India. Promotion of short seasonal fish culture like GIFT culture, the fish farmers can be encouraged to take up fish culture throughout the district and thereby increasing the inland fish production and increase the socio economic status of farmers
Eligibility Condition
Fish farmers those who are enrolled in District Fish Farmer’s Development Agency (DFFDA) in Krishnagiri District and to promote GIFT culture in Krishnagiri District.
Procedure to obtain the benefit/Service
Members of district fish farmers development agency can approach the Inspector of Fisheries/Sub-Inspector of Fisheries office directly in their respective blocks along with application form, Ration card (Photo copy), Aadhar card (Photo copy), Bank passbook (Photo copy), land documents (Including Patta, Chitta, FMB Sketch)

- Increase in the Fishing and production of the district as well as the state
- Upliftment of livelihood thereby increasing the income
- Nutritive food fish can be supplied in and around villages at cheaper rate
